2D animated explainer video for hospital indemnity insurance. Covers direct cash payments within 3-5 business days, coverage for deductibles/coinsurance, no preexisting condition clause, maternity/surgery coverage, wellness benefits, and full portability. Professional, reassuring tone for benefits enrollment.
Primary health insurance leaves massive gaps. Deductibles, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket costs for hospital stays can devastate family finances, even with good coverage. Hub International needed an explainer video that clearly communicated the benefits of hospital indemnity insurance without overwhelming viewers with insurance terminology or policy details. We created an 86-second animated insurance explainer video that focuses on what matters most to employees: direct cash payments, financial security, and peace of mind during medical emergencies.

Project Overview
The Challenge: Hospital indemnity insurance is confusing for most employees. People don’t understand the difference between primary health insurance and supplemental coverage. They don’t realize that even with good insurance, a hospital stay can cost thousands in deductibles, coinsurance, and other out-of-pocket expenses. Hub International needed to explain what hospital indemnity insurance is, why employees need it, and how it works, all without sounding like a complicated insurance policy document.
The Solution: We designed an 86-second 2D animated video featuring a presenter (illustrated character) explaining the product with visual aids (screen projections, graphic icons). The animation shows simplified hospital room scenes and household expense illustrations (house payments, groceries, everyday bills). Rather than leading with policy details, we start with the problem (out-of-pocket hospital costs stress families) and then introduce the solution (direct cash payments within 3 to 5 business days that can be used however the policyholder wants).
The Results: Hub International gained an enrollment tool that makes complex insurance concepts accessible. The video works during benefits enrollment presentations, on employee benefits portals, in email campaigns, and as part of HR onboarding materials. By focusing on financial security and flexibility (use the money however you want), the video addresses the real concern employees have: “Will I be able to pay my bills if I end up in the hospital?”
Key Benefits Explained
Direct Cash Payments Within 3 to 5 Business Days: The video emphasizes speed and simplicity. When you’re admitted to the hospital, you get cash directly (not reimbursements to healthcare providers). The money arrives in 3 to 5 business days. You decide how to use it. House payments. Groceries. Everyday expenses your primary insurance doesn’t cover. This flexibility is what differentiates hospital indemnity insurance from traditional health coverage.
Covers Out-of-Pocket Costs Primary Insurance Misses: Animation demonstrates the gap between what primary insurance pays and what patients owe. Deductibles can be thousands of dollars. Coinsurance percentages add up fast. Hospital indemnity insurance fills those gaps by paying lump sums and daily benefits based on the type of admission and length of stay.
Specific Benefit Types: The video walks through the three main benefit categories. Hospital Admission Benefit (lump sum paid when admitted). Daily Room Benefit (paid for each day in the hospital). Intensive Care Benefits (higher daily amounts for ICU stays). These specific payouts help employees understand exactly what they’re getting, not just abstract “supplemental coverage.”
No Preexisting Condition Clause: One of the biggest selling points. If you’re admitted to the hospital after the policy’s effective date, you’re covered, even for preexisting conditions. This removes a major barrier for employees who might otherwise skip supplemental coverage because they assume they won’t qualify. The animation makes this clear: the effective date is what matters, not your medical history.
Maternity & Scheduled Surgery Coverage: The video specifically calls out that admissions after the effective date for pregnancy (baby’s birth) and scheduled surgeries are covered. This reassures employees who are planning families or know they have upcoming medical procedures. They don’t need to wait years for coverage to kick in.
Wellness Benefit: A fixed amount of “wellness dollars” is paid directly to the insured and dependents who complete one of the listed wellness exams (annual checkups, preventive screenings). This benefit helps offset premium costs while encouraging preventive care. It’s a win-win that makes the insurance feel more valuable beyond just catastrophic hospital coverage.
Full Portability at Same Rates: If you change jobs, you can take the policy with you at the same rates and coverage levels. This portability removes the fear of losing coverage during career transitions. The animation shows an employee moving between jobs without losing protection, reinforcing the long-term value of the policy.

Why This Approach Works for Insurance Products
Insurance is one of the hardest products to market. It’s abstract (you’re buying protection against something that might never happen). It’s complicated (policy documents are filled with jargon and exclusions). And most people don’t want to think about illness, injury, or hospital stays until it’s too late.
This video solves all three problems. Instead of leading with abstract protection, it opens with a concrete financial problem: out-of-pocket hospital costs devastate family finances. Instead of policy jargon, it uses simple language (“direct cash payments,” “use the money however you want”). Instead of dwelling on worst-case scenarios, it focuses on peace of mind and financial security.
The presenter character creates a human connection. Employees aren’t reading a dry policy document. They’re listening to someone explain a solution to a problem they recognize (medical bills are stressful). The visual aids (screen projections, icons) keep the content engaging without overwhelming viewers with too much information at once.
Most importantly, the video addresses the biggest objection to supplemental insurance: “I already have health insurance, why do I need this?” By clearly showing the gap between what primary insurance pays and what patients owe, the video makes the value proposition obvious. Deductibles and coinsurance add up. Hospital indemnity insurance fills those gaps with direct cash you can use immediately.
Insurance brokers and benefits administrators who use clear, benefit-focused animated explainer videos see significantly higher enrollment rates during open enrollment periods. Employees understand what they’re buying and why it matters, leading to better coverage decisions and reduced financial stress during medical emergencies.
