One Studio, Both Formats

Your Story Should Choose the Format

Most animation studios built their name on one format. A 2D house treats 3D as an add-on. A 3D house only knows how to turn a product around on a pedestal. Either way, your project gets steered toward whatever the studio already does best, not what your audience needs to see.

TADApix has been telling brand stories for over 15 years, in 2D and 3D animation as well as claymation and stop-motion. That range is the point. When one studio is fluent in both formats, the format is chosen by the story, and you can move between flat, stylized storytelling and dimensional, spatially accurate visuals inside the same project. We are a Los Angeles based studio and we work with marketing, training, and communications teams across the United States.

Already sure you only need one format? Visit our dedicated 2D animation page or our dedicated 3D animation services page. This page is for projects that call for both, or that have not decided yet.

2D vs 3D

2D vs 3D: When Each One Wins

The honest answer is that neither format is better. Each one solves a different communication problem. Here is how we think about the choice with every client.

🎨 2D wins when the idea is abstract or character-led

  • The subject has no physical form. Software workflows, financial products, policies, and processes are easiest to grasp when they are drawn as clear visual metaphors.
  • Personality carries the message. Characters, expressive acting, and a distinct illustration style make training and brand stories memorable.
  • You want a strong, ownable look. 2D gives you full control over style, from clean motion graphics to hand-crafted character worlds.
  • The content will change. Scene-based 2D is straightforward to revise when a policy, screen, or statistic is updated.

🧊 3D wins when the audience has to see the real thing

  • You need to show the inside. Devices, mechanisms, equipment, and facilities can be opened up, sectioned, and explored from any angle.
  • Spatial accuracy matters. Engineering, medical, and architectural subjects need correct geometry, materials, and lighting to be credible with expert viewers.
  • The product does not exist yet. 3D lets you show a launch before there is anything to photograph.
  • The assets will be reused. A finished 3D model can be rendered again for new angles, finishes, and campaigns.

When you need both

Many of the strongest projects live in the middle. A medical device film might open with a 2D character story about the clinical problem, then move into a 3D view of the mechanism. A safety training series might use 2D characters to teach behaviors and 3D environments to walk through equipment and hazards. A software and hardware launch might pair a 2D interface explainer with a 3D look at the device. Because one creative team directs both formats, the look, the pacing, and the voice stay consistent from the first frame to the last.

What We Produce

What We Produce Across 2D and 3D

🎬 Animation by subject

  • Explainer and brand story animation. Character-driven 2D and dimensional 3D pieces that make a complex offer easy to understand.
  • Product and mechanism animation. 3D visualization of how a device, machine, or system works, including internal views.
  • Medical and scientific animation. Mechanism of action, device function, and clinical education built with your subject matter experts.
  • Training and safety animation. 2D scenarios, 3D walkthroughs, or a blend, designed for a specific workforce and facility.

✨ Motion graphics, hybrids, and delivery

  • Motion graphics and 2D visual effects. Animated interfaces, data visuals, transitions, and effects that support live-action or fully animated work.
  • Mixed format and hybrid productions. Animation combined with footage, photography, or other formats when the story calls for it.
  • Delivery for every channel. Versions for your website, sales team, trade shows, social, and learning platforms, including multiple aspect ratios.
Our Process

Our Process: Craft First, Then AI

We did not arrive at animation through AI. We are animators and directors who learned the craft first, and we now use the best AI tools to widen what we can create for a brand. Creative direction comes from an experienced director leading a team of full-time artists. AI is a tool in their hands, never a substitute for story or design judgment.

01

Discovery and script

We learn your audience, your goal, and the one idea the video has to land. The script is written to be seen, not just heard.

02

Format decision

We recommend 2D, 3D, or a blend based on what the audience needs to understand, and we show you why.

03

Design and storyboard

Style frames, character and environment design, and boards give you a clear picture of the finished piece before animation begins.

04

Animation and production

Our artists animate in 2D and 3D. Where AI lets us explore richer looks, environments, or sequences, a director shapes and approves every result.

05

Sound and finishing

Voiceover, music, sound design, color, and quality control bring the piece to broadcast polish.

06

Delivery

Final files in the formats and aspect ratios you need, with source files archived for future updates.

Industries

Industries and Use Cases

Every video is custom built for the brand behind it. We most often partner with teams in these areas:

  • Medical device and healthcare teams explaining technology and clinical value
  • Safety and compliance training for industrial, utility, and aerospace workforces
  • SaaS and technology companies simplifying complex platforms
  • Banks and credit unions educating members on digital services
  • Utilities and public agencies informing communities
  • Manufacturing, semiconductor, and engineering firms visualizing precise processes
  • Nonprofits, education, and consumer brands telling story-led campaigns

2D and 3D Animation Questions, Answered

How do I decide between 2D and 3D animation? ▼

Start with what your viewer needs to understand. If the idea is a process, a concept, or a story with characters, 2D is often the clearest path. If the viewer needs to see a physical product, mechanism, or space accurately, 3D is usually the better fit. If both are true, we combine them. We make a recommendation in the first conversation and explain the reasoning.

Can you mix 2D and 3D in a single video? ▼

Yes. Blending formats works well when a story moves between the human side of a problem and the technical side of the solution. Our directors design the two so they feel like one piece rather than two styles stitched together.

Do you work with companies across the USA? ▼

Yes. We are based in Los Angeles and run projects remotely with teams throughout the United States, with review rounds, approvals, and delivery handled online.

How does AI fit into your animation work? ▼

Craft comes first. Our team has produced 2D, 3D, claymation, and stop-motion for brands for over 15 years. We use AI tools where they expand what we can create, always directed by an experienced artist. Every video is custom built for the brand, not generated and handed over.

What do you need from us to get started? ▼

Share your goal, your audience, and any source material such as scripts, product files, or reference videos. From there we can recommend a format and outline the project.
