About This Water Utility Public Education Video
The Challenge: Grease down the drain is one of the biggest preventable causes of sewer blockages, but “don’t pour grease in the sink” is advice residents have heard and ignored forever. Otay Water District needed the message to finally stick.
The Solution: We turned grease into a villain worth remembering. The Grease Gobster swaggers through the kitchen, slides into the S-pipe, and sets up shop, while clean cutaway diagrams show liquid grease hardening into a pipe-clogging mass. Then the video flips to simple, doable fixes: let it cool, scrape it into a can, wipe the pan with a paper towel. It closes with a mobster lineup at the front door. The Result: A 98-second PSA that makes an invisible infrastructure problem vivid and gives residents habits they can adopt that same night.
