About This Hospitality Kitchen Safety Training Video

The Challenge: Kitchen safety training covers a lot of ground, cuts, burns, heavy lifting, chemical storage, collisions at blind corners, and it competes with every dry training video a new hire has ever been forced to sit through. Great Wolf Lodge wanted its food and beverage teams to genuinely watch.

The Solution: We designed the whole program as a mid-century educational film, boomerang frames, atomic starbursts, retro typography, and let the comedy carry the curriculum: a chef belts a Sound of Music parody about kitchen dangers in front of alpine peaks, and kitchen traffic becomes a top-down 8-bit maze game that ends in a dramatic “Game Over” when chefs collide.

The Result: A 4:37 training film where every rule has a visual hook, from the “bear claw” knife grip to correct lifting stance and chemical storage, delivered in a style kitchen teams quote back to each other.

Key Features That Make This Hospitality Safety Training Work

  • A retro theme that earns attention: the 1950s design motif turns mandatory training into something visually delightful.
  • Parody that teaches: the Sound of Music burn-hazard number and the 8-bit kitchen-maze game make hazards memorable, not forgettable.
  • Practical demonstrations: the bear-claw slicing grip, right-versus-wrong lifting stances, and chemical storage placement are animated so the correct way is unmistakable.
  • On-brand for Great Wolf: chef-coated characters with Lodge logos and nametags keep it unmistakably theirs.

Why Animation Works for Kitchen Safety Training

Kitchen hazards are sudden, hot, and sharp, exactly the things you can’t demonstrate safely on camera with real staff.

Animation shows the accident and the correct technique side by side without risking anyone, and a strong visual style keeps a long checklist watchable. It’s the same approach behind our learning and development work, where retention is the whole game.

When training is this fun to watch, teams remember the bear claw at the cutting board, which is the entire point.
